Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on the hit CW series Riverdale, recently opened up about his breakup from co-star Lili Reinhart. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor reflected on the “really hard” time they went through.
“Breakups are hard. They’re always going to be hard,” Cole said. “But I think it’s about whether you make it worse or better for yourself.”
The couple started dating in 2017 and broke up in 2020. While they initially kept their split private, rumors started circulating when they were seen quarantining separately during the pandemic. They later confirmed the news of their breakup in a joint statement.
“It was an incredible experience,” Cole said of his time with Lili on Riverdale. “I’ll always have a really deep admiration for her and I think we’re both creative people who can talk about things and work together really well.”
He also shared that they’ve been able to maintain a good friendship since their split. “We’re good friends now, which is awesome,” he said. “We work really well together now.”
Cole and Lili’s breakup was not the only one that affected the Riverdale cast. Co-stars Camila Mendes and Charles Melton also broke up around the same time. Despite the personal challenges, the cast has continued to work together and create successful seasons of the show.
As for Cole, he’s been keeping busy with a variety of projects outside of Riverdale. He starred in the film Five Feet Apart and has also been working on his photography. Fans will undoubtedly be keeping an eye out for his future projects and the possibility of a romantic reconciliation with Lili.
