We all know who DDG is in his most recent video, “In Love With A Mermaid,”

On The Breakfast Club last month, DDG said, “I’ve never been with someone that’s actually motivated me like she do.” He was alluding to Halle Bailey, who declared in August that she was “for sure” in love with DDG. The Michigan rapper’s sensual music video for “If I Want You,” an August single from September’s It’s Not Me It’s You, showed off their passionate relationship to the fullest.

Although DDG promised fans he wasn’t done creating music, the 12-track received the deluxe treatment in October. On November 22, he teased “Vegan,” writing on Instagram, “I’m dropping new songs every Wednesday starting tomorrow..” The following Wednesday, November 30, saw the release of “Forbes List,” after which DDG broke the rules and released “In Love With A Mermaid” over the weekend.

It goes without saying that Bailey will be playing Ariel in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, which will hit theatres on May 26, 2023. This casting surprised DDG. In September, he admitted on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, “I didn’t know people were this racist; I didn’t know this was a thing. I believed that this garbage was long gone.

On “In Love With A Mermaid,” DDG lavishes Bailey with the admiration she ought to have gotten for the ground-breaking part. DDG can be seen in the video posing in front of a microphone. The slow-burning tribute is contrasted with the brightly illuminated Christmas tree in the background. DDG even confesses that he “can’t wait till we have kids” while making the seamless promise to love you “from Thursday to Thursday / Not a human, I’m in love with a mermaid.”
